IT IS NOT MY FAULT I AM NIGERIAN

I forgot to say  Happy Independence Nigeria in my last post. We have come a long way you and I. From when I thought I could conquer you, to when I tried, to when you did and I just came to accept it. Nigeria has come a long way some of it good, some of it bad, we are still growing I accept. I have been seeing  some videos online and a lot of brands and people have been going on about their reasons why they love Nigeria. I am going to be honest, whether you like it or not the major reason why we like Nigeria is because we can do as we like and get away with it, majority of the time. No justice, no call back, no ticket. Basically we do not Pay. That's why we love Nigeria. If you like, be a twitter activist with all your Oyibo Schooling or Dstv exposure, it all comes down to the same thing. If Police should stop you after you have beat a traffic light you either beg or pay. You are like every other Nigerian and we LOVE It. The other day I was taking my child home from s...

Reversing Gender Roles, Are We Sure We Are Ready?

Thank you all for reading even when I haven't posted as often as I should. These past few weeks have been an adjustment.  In Nigeria, the idea of a stay at home dad or house husband is a subject that should not even be discussed in public. Personally, I don't even know how I feel about the concept of my going to work every day and my husband stays at home to raise our daughter. I don't even want to get into first, the confusion, then outrage, as people watch and encounter our 22nd century love unfold (because that's how they will refer to it.) I have heard of real life cases like this but very few. Even in what we consider very advanced societies people still have the expectations that  the man provides and the woman takes a slower or maybe less tasking role so she can nurture and raise the family and the children.   These are the roles we were brought up with as children and have come to expect as adults. There is the exception of those who grew up...

Why Must We Be Friends?

Hello dear passerby. Thank you for coming to my blog page to read the workings of my mind. I didn't post last week because I had not one single idea on what to write about, here are a few random things that crossed my mind to write on: 'How to kill your neighbours pet'  I hurriedly decided against this because I knew it was hugely influenced by my binge watching of criminal minds and the fact that I have a tricky relationship with animals. 'How to catch a serial killer', lmao! this was also a criminal minds induced hallucination, now I kind of think of myself as a profiler ( I wish). 'How to train your child' this is so funny because I have absolutely no idea and I know this is not where you should come for this kind of advice.  How not to spend your first million (I will actually write on this soon) and many other seriously laughable topics were involved but I finally got to write about how we can't all possibly be friends, it's impo...

Let's talk about SEX

I have been on twitter since I woke up. I am currently on holiday so I have the time :) there is a conversation about rape and rape culture is Nigeria but I will go unto that later. Now though I want to talk about one of the 7 wonders of the World: Sex. Good for you if you think it is and wait and see if you think it isn't LOL. Sex has always had a different sort of connotation in our country always so shrouded in mystery. People don't talk about it, if you talk about it you are bad. First of all let's note that I do not write any blog post that I will not be proud of my daughter reading one day. so I am going to write this post as I will want my child to understand it. What we need in this world now is not more articles telling us how to have sex, LOL these are useful but somehow, we kind of find that out on our own. What we need are real articles telling us about the ramifications and emotional entanglements of the entire glorious affair, and more reason why...

Ageing

Hello everyone, hope you are having a great week etc. I am so excited because  I am a year older   today   I do not have a problem with saying my age I am turning a few years older than 20 I have done this calculation over and over again so that I am sure that I am not adding anymore years LoL. Besides the scaring of child birth, I feel the same as I did at 20, honestly. I would have put up my age but my mother keeps insisting that a lady doesn't share these things. I am trying to be one. I wish age was nothing but a number but it really isn't, it's great when a 50 year old looks 23 (as If) but you see you have seen 50 years, 1 long life time with 50 different years of experiences so don't say it doesn't matter. Getting older is fantastic, you know more than you knew before and most times you forget what you knew before. I am old enough now to make my own decisions but this does not always work in  my favour,  don't you just miss the days whe...

Nudity? Please...

I love the internet and social media. I love how we can share things and receive things without actually having to be in contact, I am one of those people who embraces new tech until of course I realise it's no longer working for me. Now one thing that I have had enough of is this exhibitionism that is now parading itself around as activism. What is your naked body standing up for please.  It's one thing or another, from Kim Kardarshan's constant need to be the topic of discussion, to Chelsea Handler and Miley Cyrus forcing us to see their nipples. People say things like if you don't  like it don't look , I used to be one of those people but how can I not look when these images are constantly on all my timelines going by headlines like; " so and so stands up to online haters   with these sexy nude shot " or " This and that celebrity stands up to body shamers with more naked pictures " or  "so and so supermodel stands up to instagram ...

Parenting: Are we Encouraging Mediocrity

I remember when I was in primary school, I was always either first or second in my class this was earlier on oh, before I discovered how much I hated mathematics. I recall how I came back every time with my first/ second result and after doing this for awhile my parents treated it like it was nothing special it became an expectation. After a while I too stared treating it like it was my right to be the best or second best in class. Then one term my younger brother who could not be bothered came second in his class, my parents were all over him like "oh he came first" and so on. Imagine my annoyance so I met my mother in the kitchen that day and said "mummy but I came second too" and she said "but of course you did dear, what other position did you want to get do you want me to throw a party?" (I will like you to know that my mother is very sarcastic in a loving way of course but sarcastic nonetheless and I love it.) lol. We were expected to be th...
