Offence Collector

Collector: I know she was talking about me, I didn't hear her say my name in the conversation but she said something and I knew it was me. People are rubbish, friends are disloyal. She will soon come to my table and smile and act like we are friends, but she spends all her time talking about me then they will say I am always angry. In fact I am not angry; I will just treat her in this office like she is a fly.

Giver: Why is she upset now. What have I done again. She is acting like I don't exist but I can see her going out of her way to make me know she is ignoring me. Oh well...

Collector: He knew I wanted him to keep it here. What kind of person looks at you when you are talking and doesn't hear what you are saying? That's how he is... that's how last year the same thing happened. How am I expected to be happy and normal in this house with someone who doesn't listen. He says he honestly forgot but isn't that what they all say?

Giver: How many goals did Everton score against ManU again Babe?... I think I will go out to play pool with the boys you don't seem to be in the mood. Hope you are okay? let me take this call see you later love.

Collector: She doesn't greet. That how I passed her in the stairwell on my way to photocopy for Madam and she didn't greet me, then she will be tethering on her stilettos and looking down her nose at her phone like she is living in a world of her own and not greeting.

Giver: Why is Madam's Secretary always eyeing me and growling at me. I greet her and she doesn't answer but she is always growling and eyeing me?

So you are angry but the person you are angry at doesn't even know. Everything makes you mad. Someone passes you and smiles you get offended because they only smiled and didn't nod. Then they nod you are offended because they didn't do it with a smile. They greet you but never answer but when they mind themselves and don't greet you get upset they didn't greet.

They write in Facebook post about one thing or another and you take offence because you are sure they are talking about you.

To me the most hilarious offense you can take is against someone or someone who you have no control over or worse still something you have imagined.

Imagined offenses are definitely the worst. We need to remember offence usually isn’t given, it's taken, you see something that is just happening and you decide that you have chosen out of all the choices you have that day to take offence.

After you have sat down and had a conversation in your head you then proceed to deflect the responsibility of your bad feelings unto the next person.

Then you spend the time with a long face and acid reflux and  no one even notices and like a child you proceed into a rage then tell lies that you are angry about something else so you don't look silly.

Don't you have something better to do with your heart space?

Offence is like black ink in clean water, it colours the whole water and makes it unusable. So if you are spending your time ruining your mood where good news and mercy should be reflecting back into the world from, what have you accomplished?

The people who are hilarious are those who say “oh I am not offended oh...” then go on to talk about how offended they are with someone else. We may die today, tomorrow or live long and healthy lives before we are called to account.

Don't you want to spend that time with a free heart? Mentally burning bridges that you shouldn't have because of your imagination on a perceived fault or your inability to forgive a genuine fault.

The Waiting Room

Photo by Kyle Glenn on Unsplash Been sitting in this position of stagnation Watching doors open and close in trepidation My emotions jumble in confusion When will it be my turn? People pass me in this chair the walls are rock surrounded by air doors opening and closing, despair When can I get going? The time ticks by as I watch Slowly draining as a trough While I fight to clutch Are all my dreams now dead? The sound of hope as doors burst open Window agape as glass lay broken A way to pass I see as I awaken After discovery in this waiting room. -YD- How I hate to wait. I strongly dislike standing still and just waiting for time to pass, for something to happen. I tell myself that God has got to find me here, if I stand still long enough God has got to hear me, but I still stand there waiting for something to happen and most times nothing does. When I was much younger when things don't turn out as I planned for them to; I d...

Dear Mr President

Dear Mr President, The other day, doing what young people do, I picked up my phone and read a statement from you. The one in the above quote. Sadly, I wasn't surprised because I realized what most of the young people in Nigeria did not realize, that your main job is to appear more to the outside world than to us that you have tackled our issues and found us wanting because if you don't we obviously cannot get money out of them. But as a curious cat that I am I have a few simple questions, please take your time to answer: Which youth are you talking about exactly? The ones who are queuing up in the streets every day looking for work? The ones migrating from rural areas in search for a better life for their families? Or is it the idealistic ones that return to this country with big dreams of making a better country and are told to chill “. Are you not Nigerian?" The ones who seek an opportunity to get better and be entrepreneurs in the absence o...

A Poem: Tear Eye (Part 1 of the Tear Eye Series)

They said her eye don tear She has seen too much She has done too much Her voice is the loudest now Her steps the heaviest now They say her eye has tear Her  skin is leather Her throat sore She has shouted too much Too tough, Too hard  All the way around her head Her eye don tear No innocence any more She does not do what she is to do Ego oyibo has blinded her Her eye has tear Her hands are too hard  Her back too bent Her eye don tear She prices too long Mama haggler mama hustler That is not how woman is meant to be Tear eye every where -YD-
