I once read a post about a female bricklayer, who earns a living by working in construction sites. This post was up on Facebook and had a few hundred likes and comments. Everyone who reads stuff on Facebook and blogs know that the real stuff happens in the comments.

I proceeded to read the comments under the post because my procrastination monkey had taken over and that guy (yes my procrastination monkey is male and that's because all the most accomplished procrastinators I know are men) loves social media a lot. I Digress, most of the comments rightly praised her because why not, that is totally a male dominated profession (way to breaking glass ceilings)... there was a particular one though that stood out for me, Written by a man  it went about stating how women should be like this woman and praised her and not be busy being slay queens.

This leads me to what I want to write about today: Who is a slay queen?

By my definition (and accomplished understanding) she is a woman (a queen) who decides to excel (exceedingly kick Ass, commit murder and whatever urban or dark euphemisms you may like to use) at whatever task she has decided to do. You may not agree with said tasks or activities but once she decides, she does them exceedingly well. She may be a board member at the company, a brick layer, a bread hawker, a socialite, a youth copper who loves and helps her Mama who fries Akara, an admin or accounting staff at the firm, your house manager wife, your Instagram model, photographer, even your boyfriend's side chick ... whatever she does, she does it like an assassin because she kills at it.

That is a slay queen.

A woman who works hard to get good at everything because she is backed by grace.

Don't come on to anyone's profile and try to praise them while vilifying something beautiful. The word Slay was made more popular from Beyonce's song Formation where she is telling women to empower themselves and go out and SLAY.
So this is from one SLAY Queen to any others who happen to pass by this post at some point in time.

Kick Ass and Take names always. Do not apologize and do not be ashamed of what God has put in you.

The Nigerian Dream

If you are an avid oyibo movie watcher like me, then you have heard of what they call, the American Dream. It means the idea that anyone in the United States has the chance to achieve success and prosperity.  I figure the dream runs along different lines for different folks, for some it might be being a successful father, mildly busy but extremely available mother, two children, a dog  (or some other animal)and a great white house with a fence of some sort (this is just the way I assume it will look) or it could be building and running your own fortune 500 company from starting in a garage or your bedroom. This dream is supported by a system that makes education up to high school level free and compulsory and provides opportunities to be held on to and grow. This dream is achieved by some an...

1000 QUESTIONS

Welcome to 2017 (as if I am the gate keeper to the year. lol) in the spirit of new things, I have some questions that have been on my mind and I will love to share with you.  I wrote this post late last year, but i figured the best way to start a new page is to ask questions then spend the whole time finding answers.  I read somewhere that the questions we ask ourselves improve our experience of any given situation. If you don't fully understand something you cannot fully expose yourself to something you don't understand. So based on my quest to fully understand life I  have a few questions to ask and though  they are not ground breaking, they are questions I have and will like to know your answers to. Caution you will find no answers here...👀👀 What is shame and why do we have it? is it a reflex of our minds to help us not do the stuff we have imposed on ourselves as wrong? Why is it that people who work hard do not get any returns but...

Wrangling Your Inner Feminist

Lately the word Feminist is everywhere. I mean since it got all caught up in pop culture. Ladies, its hard out there for a girl, this is the truth the world treats you like you are and enemy sometimes, both women and men. There is so much idealism that surround this school of thought, this belief that a woman has a right to be equal to a man in all day to day dealings but this idea rubs the some people the wrong way. The stereotypes that exist against feminism are very funny; some believe you need to be an unhappy woman, because I mean if you have a man in your life already telling you what to do you will stop complaining right? Who said a feminist can't be a wife or mother or straight. Basically feminism is the pursuit of the equality of the sexes in all spheres of life. Like one author said, it's basically the belief that women are people.  People attribute some odd things to feminist like masculinity and all that but just because a woman says she is a feminis...
