Soft and Pink.

I know a girl,

she knows how to stop a crowd,

though she is not the most beautiful,
there is something about her that catches the eye.
She holds her head high,
laughs from her heart and wears a smile like gold.
I know a girl with a heart so true a love so pure and a mind so strong.
She wears her love like a dress and her thoughts she's not afraid to share.
That's the girl I want to be,
Soft and strong and pink.

Soft and Pink is an expression I stole from Wendy Williams. I love it, because it refers to some things a woman sometimes is. I have been wanting to write on this and what it means to me for quite some time and my thoughts have been all over the place.
So soft and pink, if your mind is not in the gutter when you hear these words, you  think of fluffy and sweet smelling ... flowers... lol had to drag my mind out of there too.

Sometimes,  women go out of their way to show how much they are NOT soft and pink. There is a majority of women that believe that they will be closer to accomplishing their dreams if they are like men.  The truth is, not every woman is soft or pink, when I say pink I am not  necessarily referring to the colour as much as I am  referring  to the femininity that sometimes crosses the mind when you see the colour or think of it. In this era of "do it like a dude to be happy," women find themselves forcing to be a different kind of person to fit into  a man's world.
What I like to think is, the fact that I am a woman in a man's world gives me the edge.

Here are a few characteristics of the soft and pink woman;

·   She is not afraid of her femininity she embraces it.
·   She knows her power is in the fact that she is a woman trying to be a better woman.
·   She may seem vulnerable but she is tougher than nails and everyone who knows her knows this.
·   She is not afraid to let her freak flag fly, she embraces her sexuality but does not wear it like an amour.
·   She helps and support other woman because she understands that it hard out there for a girl.
·   She is not afraid to love. To give it or receive it because although she has been burnt, she understands that love has its benefits.
·   Sometimes, she loves her fashion sometime she doesn't. Frilly skirts and dresses does not a soft and pink woman make although they are one of the ways you identify her, sometimes she loves her trousers too and she wears them well.
·    She loves and embraces life.
·    She embraces her strength.
·    She is confident on the outside but her insecurities make her who she is.
·    She understands that because she has to do things that people may view as masculine sometimes, they do not make her a man they just make her a better woman.
·    She is not afraid to stand up and fight when there is a fight and she is not afraid to walk away from a fight when that's the right thing to do.
·    She is not weak, never has been, never will be, although you may make the error of viewing her softness as weakness.
·    She is not afraid to be taken care off she long for it and she accepts it.
·    She knows how to receive a complement gracefully and she loves to be adored.

I learnt these lessons from beautiful women who have surrounded me all my life. My Darling Mother, My One and only sister, my friends who are now like sisters to me and I also learnt these lessons from the wonderful men who support and surround me. For a woman to be herself she needs the support of everyone.

Cheers to my soft and pink sisters keep being you. Fearless and unashamed.

XO.

The Killing of the Virtuous Woman

(Unchained Part 1) This is where she died. The virtuous woman. She started early with one kid on her back and the other one pinned to her side. Going up a hill with a bucket of water while he still slept... Back pain killed her. No appetite after cooking food for you and you and you, too tired to laugh or eat or take part in the conversation… Complacency killed her They said to make something of yourself. She had no time; home had to be perfect she said my home is the reflection of who I am… Aimlessness killed her. She began late with the clothes washing and the floor scrubbing while watching the brood she had to split to bare. Because of love, she held nothing back... She moved on to the bedroom where she had to be your love, your whore, your dream for 5 minutes and yet you found flaws, but she smiled and moved on with it… Selflessness killed her. This is where she died the love of your life, of heartbreak when she heard you had room in your heart f...

The Fashion Monster

Today lets talk about the Fashion, Fads  and style. I will start by defining both. From the various things I have read, I will conclude that fashion is a manner of doing something or the latest or newest way of doing something (my extensive reading ends with wiki... just in-case you were wondering). A fad on the other hand is an intense of widely spread enthusiasm for something. A craze if you like and its usually short lived. Style on the other hand is the manner or way in which something is done. I have been wondering what the idea with all this fads are, esp now that we have social media, everything becomes a craze people do all sorts of things to be seen as ''in Fashion" university Students using their school fees to fund shopping spree and have stuff that's not practical, Today I read on LIB how 3 guys who want to look like big boys go and shop lift from boutiques when they could be using their time to find money to eat. Its not only in fashion that we...

Poverty Mentality

If you are a Nigerian, you have heard these two words together so many times. Some people just attribute if to poor people, you can't be more wrong. I do not use these words to insult any class of people in this our great country but to just describe, just let you understand seriously what this really means. Poverty is the state of being extremely poor (syn: lacking, Insufficient etc). Mentality is a way of thing of something. Poverty Mentality is a way of thinking in a sense of lack or insufficiency or inadequacy. Now poverty mentality should not be mistaken for prudence or common sense in spending or saving. Frugality is not poverty mentality. I am going to give examples. You go to a Nigerian wedding your shoes cost more than some peoples' meals in weeks and the asoebi you bought is the entire amount of someone's monthly salary yet  when they are sharing souvenirs in the reception hall you basically go and beat the servers down ...
