The Story of the Padlock and the Key

Let me tell you a story...

Once upon a time, in far far land, there lived a beautiful padlock, whose name was Padlucky.
Padlucky had a lovely gleaming body with a nice sturdy handle that shone oh so bright.
You see because Padlucky was so beautiful, all the keys loved her. There was no key that didn't
try to open her and sometimes Padlucky let them.

But everyone judged her. Even the keys Judged her, the ones that had opened and the ones that hoped to open her one day. The keys that she refused to let open her said mean things like "so you will let tiger brand key open you and you will be showing off for me? what makes you so special"

In this Land, there also lived a key that could open every padlock. His name was MasterKey.
His friends loved him and celebrated him because you see, there was no padlock that Master key could not open. MasterKey opened padlocks from the North to the South, from the east to the west of the Land.
Even Padlocks sang his praise.

The End.,

I keep hearing this analogy of the master key and the padlock that any key can open,
despite the fact that I find it exceedingly offensive people keep using it around me. I don't like the analogy because most padlocks come attached to a key and only that key can open them. The same goes for the key, besides scratching your recharge card or your hair the key can't be used for any other thing. Women and Men aren't formed that way, we have choices, preferences and opinions.

Some time ago, I read various blog posts where women were busy having it out about cheating men. A wife wrote the letter, a mistress responded even the fierce independent ladies had a say. I think everyone answered roll call lol.
Talking about cheating spouses, I didn't fail to notice how the wife managed to blame the runs girls for taking the darling husband, i mean if a man sleeps around it can't possibly be his fault right?
it's all these rubbish padlocks that will let any key open them.

There was even a blog post I saw, can't recall where; Writer was a guy and he was telling women to be grateful and take what they get. He said it is not possible for men to be faithful in or out of marriage, that that's how they were built. I don't know who to blame for all this but we now live in a culture where people especially men are no longer held accountable for their actions. If a man cheats in Nigeria, his wife may have had enough and leave, everybody will be saying be a steadfast woman fight for your home. While I strongly advocate the fight as I believe marriage is worth fighting for but how much is too much?

While it's not okay for any partner to cheat in a committed relationship, we in society are quick to throw stones at the woman than we are at the man.
Nobody says "ahh! that woman cheated, did her husband not cook for her?
Did he add weight? is he paying too much attention to the children? is he going to church too much?
why isn't he using a waist trainer to make himself look sexier for her?
Somehow if a man cheats it is kind of the woman's fault. I am not saying here that there aren't things we do or don't do that could chase our partners away but, sometimes women or men can bend over backwards and the partner still cheats.

We need to recognize that maybe women and men operate on a similar spectrum in these modern times and we need to stop judging people based on their gender. If a woman can be faithful to her husband for 20 years of marriage, then it is possible for a man to be. Let's not fool ourselves, the women are probably tempted as much as the men are, some fall some don't and the philosophy of what you don't know won't kill you operates strongly in both cases.

Whether male or female the decision to be faithful is all on your shoulders, it's not a pre-destined genetic anything. It's you, be you, man or woman.

Disclaimer: This is in no way an endorsement for cheating, I am just saying women are not padlocks nor are men keys. I think we are a combination of both with common sense in the mix.

Vals through the ages

Before SS1, Valentine's day was a day when my Father made us all dress to the nines and he took us to the "swankyest" restaurant in whatever town we were in usually Abuja or Calabar. Fast forward to senior secondary I changed schools from an all girls boarding to a mixed boarding. I became aware of what the holiday meant (the whole lovers situation). In an all girls school, Vals day was just a low key day for "school daughters and mothers". In the mixed school though it was a whole other monster. The night before, girls stayed awake talking about all the boys that liked them and who they will be expecting gifts from. Come morning, girls will go to class holding their breath hoping that the boy they have a crush on has finally grown a pair and put something nice in their locker. This day also was also the unfortunate day that boys picked to play practic...

Let's talk about SEX

I have been on twitter since I woke up. I am currently on holiday so I have the time :) there is a conversation about rape and rape culture is Nigeria but I will go unto that later. Now though I want to talk about one of the 7 wonders of the World: Sex. Good for you if you think it is and wait and see if you think it isn't LOL. Sex has always had a different sort of connotation in our country always so shrouded in mystery. People don't talk about it, if you talk about it you are bad. First of all let's note that I do not write any blog post that I will not be proud of my daughter reading one day. so I am going to write this post as I will want my child to understand it. What we need in this world now is not more articles telling us how to have sex, LOL these are useful but somehow, we kind of find that out on our own. What we need are real articles telling us about the ramifications and emotional entanglements of the entire glorious affair, and more reason why...

The Killing of the Virtuous Woman

(Unchained Part 1) This is where she died. The virtuous woman. She started early with one kid on her back and the other one pinned to her side. Going up a hill with a bucket of water while he still slept... Back pain killed her. No appetite after cooking food for you and you and you, too tired to laugh or eat or take part in the conversation… Complacency killed her They said to make something of yourself. She had no time; home had to be perfect she said my home is the reflection of who I am… Aimlessness killed her. She began late with the clothes washing and the floor scrubbing while watching the brood she had to split to bare. Because of love, she held nothing back... She moved on to the bedroom where she had to be your love, your whore, your dream for 5 minutes and yet you found flaws, but she smiled and moved on with it… Selflessness killed her. This is where she died the love of your life, of heartbreak when she heard you had room in your heart f...
