Nigeria: What Change Really Looks Like

Hello People, It has been a while but thanks for sticking with me, Everyone is rounding out for the year so the work has not been easy but we are grateful to God because it has not been easy but it has been fabulous. I was going to write an ode to MEN. Yes you read it right An Ode to Men, Saying all the wonderful reasons why we should still celebrate them. Patriarchy had a bad year though! LOL.

In this post i am going to teach you how to be a Nigerian. You think you are a Nigerian but you have no idea.  I will be exploring 5 basic features every Nigerian should Posses based on the examples we have been given.

  1. Never take responsibility for your actions: you may be someone who is quick to stand up and take the blame, but you are doing it all wrong.  A true Nigerian never takes responsibility. Don't you read the news, or Linda Ikeji like every normal Nigerian person, don't you read how the current ruling class keeps blaming the past administration for everything? So what are you still doing jumping up with your fingers up shouting "Aunty Me" every time someone asks who is responsible. You better do like Cain and blame Abel Jare. Don't be a learner.
  2. Never Explain yourself: Because what is the point? If people do not see your intentions from the things you do then what is the point of explaining yourself to all these slow people.  A true Nigerian that cares about this nation does not waste time trying to take others along. A true Nigerian just moves forward ignoring the simple questions of other people. So never explain. don't you see how our wonderful leader doesn't even bother to take the time. I remember when GEJ was in power, he was always busy condemning the actions of so and so, it got old, yes and we still finished him on social media and regular media with statements like 'stop telling us sorry do something' well, now we have got ourselves the exact opposite of that. So never explain your motives and intentions to mere mortals who can never follow.
  3. Do as I say not as I do. This should be your mantra as a Nigerian to everyone who is under you or looks up to you. Let them listen to you but never emulate you. It's hard enough being you now you want people walking around doing what you do? Never. Take our senators and legislators for example. They still have those funny allowances but we can't talk about it and we can't earn that much because we have to keep the palms of our leaders well lubricated so that all the remaining funds in the reserve don't stick to their hands. What about the police? You see the way the police cars drive around like they are mad. They never stop at traffic lights even when they carry an empty van and are not chasing anybody, but you cannot drive like that because it's the same police that will stop you. So this is a lesson to be learned. Only follow what you hear but never what you see. :)
  4. Disconnect yourself from reality: Under no circumstance can you as a Nigerian be aware of what is the reality outside your front door. Create a universe in your head in which you live and when you are making decisions please endeavour to make it based on the flies flying around in your brain. If you are vigilant Nigerian you will remember some individuals proposed to ban those small generators in Nigeria. Seeing as electricity in Nigeria is now 24/7/365. They have forgotten that petty businesses operate on these generators and that's the reality of many Nigerians.  The banks have stopped the use of our Naira cards outside Nigeria and the CBN is backing them. It is the belief of the CBN governor that the more stringent and impossible it is to live in the country the more difficult you make it for Nigerian to spend their money the more money we will have?  to use for what?
  5. Lie: Never under any circumstance tell the truth about anything. It is not your responsibility to waste your valuable time telling anybody the truth about anything.  So in simple terms lie. Don't you see the way all your politicians lie. They claim they can't afford to spend money on workers' salaries but have stupid allowances and give out stupid contracts and not necessary positions in their cabinets to people who won't be affecting public good.

I don't understand how we keep falling into the same mistakes. Maybe the presence of the media has made its that we cannot ignore the mistakes of our government, but I don't think that our awareness is a bad thing. It is good that Nigerians now have strong opinions and we are getting our voices heard with no apologies. So we cannot be sorry that we are constantly talking about the blunders in the administration, it's our right to do so. As a Nigerian it is our responsibility to care about what happens, this is the only country that some of us have. We have nowhere else to run to it has no choice but to work. I believe in giving the government time but it's like they are not even grounded in reality and nobody is taking the time to take us along, so we are busy here sitting on our computers drawing our own conclusions.

So have a beautiful long Weekend. Merry Christmas I hope you have gone to the bank. :)

Vals through the ages

Before SS1, Valentine's day was a day when my Father made us all dress to the nines and he took us to the "swankyest" restaurant in whatever town we were in usually Abuja or Calabar. Fast forward to senior secondary I changed schools from an all girls boarding to a mixed boarding. I became aware of what the holiday meant (the whole lovers situation). In an all girls school, Vals day was just a low key day for "school daughters and mothers". In the mixed school though it was a whole other monster. The night before, girls stayed awake talking about all the boys that liked them and who they will be expecting gifts from. Come morning, girls will go to class holding their breath hoping that the boy they have a crush on has finally grown a pair and put something nice in their locker. This day also was also the unfortunate day that boys picked to play practic...

Let's talk about SEX

I have been on twitter since I woke up. I am currently on holiday so I have the time :) there is a conversation about rape and rape culture is Nigeria but I will go unto that later. Now though I want to talk about one of the 7 wonders of the World: Sex. Good for you if you think it is and wait and see if you think it isn't LOL. Sex has always had a different sort of connotation in our country always so shrouded in mystery. People don't talk about it, if you talk about it you are bad. First of all let's note that I do not write any blog post that I will not be proud of my daughter reading one day. so I am going to write this post as I will want my child to understand it. What we need in this world now is not more articles telling us how to have sex, LOL these are useful but somehow, we kind of find that out on our own. What we need are real articles telling us about the ramifications and emotional entanglements of the entire glorious affair, and more reason why...

The Killing of the Virtuous Woman

(Unchained Part 1) This is where she died. The virtuous woman. She started early with one kid on her back and the other one pinned to her side. Going up a hill with a bucket of water while he still slept... Back pain killed her. No appetite after cooking food for you and you and you, too tired to laugh or eat or take part in the conversation… Complacency killed her They said to make something of yourself. She had no time; home had to be perfect she said my home is the reflection of who I am… Aimlessness killed her. She began late with the clothes washing and the floor scrubbing while watching the brood she had to split to bare. Because of love, she held nothing back... She moved on to the bedroom where she had to be your love, your whore, your dream for 5 minutes and yet you found flaws, but she smiled and moved on with it… Selflessness killed her. This is where she died the love of your life, of heartbreak when she heard you had room in your heart f...
